Experience
Dr. Lenn Murrelle, Venebio’s principal founder, has 25 years of experience in developing, leading and contributing to large-scale research projects across a number of life sciences areas in 12 countries. His areas of focus have included case-control association studies, twin and family studies, pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacogenetic safety studies, preclinical molecular studies, and biomarker discovery and validation involving high-throughput genomic, epigenomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic markers. Through his previous positions in major multinational corporations, research universities and international consulting, Dr. Murrelle has extensive experience in study design; data management, analysis, and interpretation; strategic project portfolio management; and collaboration management in neuropsychiatry, substance abuse, gastrointestinal, respiratory, and cardiovascular research. He has directed complex projects involving the creation and management of multidisciplinary teams of professionals across industry, academia and biotechnology. Major funding sources for these projects have included the US National Institutes of Health, US State Department, international governments, Organization of American States, World Health Organization, and major philanthropic organizations. Dr. Murrelle has co-authored more than 100 scientific publications, technical reports and presentations.

Dr. Murrelle was on the faculty in Human Genetics and Epidemiology & Community Health at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine and is currently Research Professor of Pharmacy at the VCU School of Pharmacy and Visiting Research Professor at the CES University in Medellín, Colombia. He earned a PhD in Psychiatric Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh and completed post-doctoral training in genetic epidemiology at the Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics. Dr. Murrelle received his MSPH in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) and a BA in Biology from Wake Forest University.
